  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round baking pans with butter and dust with cocoa powder.
  2. In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in milk and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks.
  6. For the filling, mix sliced strawberries with sugar and let sit for 10-15 minutes to macerate.
  7. Layer one cake on a serving plate, spread half the strawberry filling on top, place the second layer over it, and finish with remaining strawberries.
