- 2 cups powdered sugar (for buttercream)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Sift together almond flour and powdered sugar in a bowl.
- In another bowl, whip egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add caster sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks develop.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the whipped egg whites gently until the batter flows slowly off the spatula.
- Divide the batter into two bowls; color one red and one green with food coloring. Pipe circles onto prepared baking sheets.
- Let piped macarons rest at room temperature for 30 minutes to form a skin.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until they lift easily from parchment paper. Cool completely before filling with buttercream.
